ABUJA-AS part of moves to eradicate the dreaded poliomyelitis in the country, the 36 state governors have drawn up  quarterly sensitization programmes.

The governors, in a statement yesterday by Nigeria Governors’ Forum’s Director-General, Mr. Asishana Okauru, said the programme was designed to raise awareness on the need to eradicate polio across the country.

According to the governors, August 13, 2011 November 12, 2011, February 11, 2012; and May 12, 2012 have be fixed for elaborate quarterly awareness programmes.

The governors believe it would help in addressing the problem, as well as  drive the menace   underground.

The statement read: ”The Forum unanimously resolved to dedicate one day every quarter to hold sensitization campaigns in all the states to raise the level of awareness.”

They explained that the decision to fix specific dates for the nationwide awareness programme was taken at the last meeting of the Forum  in Abuja.
