FIVE unknown gunmen have kidnapped the 83-year old mother of the National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olusola Oke.
Madam Mariam Oke was abducted in her son’s country home in Igbokoda, in the oil rich Ilaje Council area of Ondo State.
There is no report of any demand for ransom by her kidnappers, as at press time.
This is coming barely three months after business mogul, Jimoh Ibrahim’s mother was kidnapped at Igbotako in Okitipupa area of the state.
The state government in a swift reaction condemned the act, describing Madam Oke’s kidnapping as reprehensible and unacceptable.
Information Commissioner Ranti Akerele said that that the state government would join hands with the security operatives to ensure the release of Madam Mariam to her family unhurt.
Vanguard gathered that the gun men invaded her home at about 9:30pm, Monday, and whisked her away to an unknown destination.
Oke’s mother, Chief (Mrs) Mariam Oke according to the family was said to have been abducted at about 9pm in Ilaje – Igbokoda, Ondo State on Monday, just as the kidnappers have not made any contact with the family of .
According to the PDP National Legal Adviser, Chief Olusola Oke, when contacted to speak on the development, he said, “My mother has been kidnapped and the kidnappers have not communicated with us. We are appealing to them not to harm the poor old woman.”
It would be recalled that the son of the National Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje was kidnapped in similar circumstances in Ilorin last year, but was later released after an undisclosed ransom was allegedly paid.
