ADO-EKITI — Former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has blamed former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for not immotalizing acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential election annulled by General Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Moshood Kasimawo Abiola, saying Abiola “is greater in grave than Obasanjo.”
Speaking at the commemoration of the 18 years anniversary of the June 12 organised by the Ekiti State Government, in Ado-Ekiti, Chief Akeredolu argued that Obasanjo being a major beneficiary of June 12 fallout, did every thing he could to erase June 12 from the mind of Nigerians.
“Obasanjo betrayed June 12 and was a beneficiary, he betrayed the struggle and worked assiduously against it and he spat on the river that cleanse him, now MKO has towered above Obasanjo and his cohorts”Akeredolu stated
At the lecture with the theme:“June 12 And Electoral Integrity in Nigeria’’ Akeredolu condemned the role played by the military headed by General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, describing it as “treasonable” to have annulled the most credible election ever conducted in the country since her independence, saying “all those people who collaborated with the military are all culpable.”
In his remarks, Ekiti state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said the June 12 election was incontrovertible
According to him, there was nohow there could be May 29 without June 12, saying June 12 was relevant to Ekiti state.
Also speaking, a member of National Assembly, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial in the senate, said June 12 “is a day that will never be erased from the hearts of Nigerians despite the attempts by some people to kill what it stands for”.
His words“‘Today,Moshood Abiola may be dead,but his belief and commitment to true democracy is spreading like a wild fire across the country.It is a matter of time before the whole nation,and even antagonists of the kind of democracy championed by Abiola and currently being championed by the ACN,catch the fire’”
