And it didn’t end!

By Florence Amagiya

In 1975, though some of us where not born then, there was this prediction made by ‘a section of the Christendom that the world would come to an end that year. The fear of the rapture, prompted many people sold-off their belongings and gave up hope about living. But the world didn’t end after all.

This year, came another fantastic prediction by Harold Camping that the world would end on May 21, 2011. But if his prediction had come true then, I would not have been alive to write this article and you would not be reading it. Going by this latest prediction, the end would have come already, but nothing happened because his prophesies are untrue.

Meanwhile, believers and non-believers were mulling the probability of Camping’s prophecy forgetting that even Jesus Christ, the son of the living God declared knowledge of the time and seaon the end would come, when he was confronted by His followers in the Bible.

He said “nobody knows the hour when the son of man will come again except the Father”, but that He will come “like a thief in the night”.

My questions are: Why do some Christians claim to serve God and yet they do not understand His words? Who is a Prophet and a false Prophet? Why were people worried about those predictions if they don’t have skeletons in their wardrobes? What is the end of a person’s world?

In my limited knowledge, a false prophet is a prophet whose prophesies doesn’t come true. While a real Prophet speaks and it comes to pass. Men (humans) are afraid of things they are not sure of or things greater than them. The end of the world to any man is when he dies.

We shouldn’t be perturbed about the end of this world’s prediction because the end of the world cannot be predicted by any man, not even the angels. Only the Almighty God can say when this world will end and He will not reveal it to man according to the bible.

We should instead be bothered about the way in which we live our lives today, the people’s lives that are placed in our care while living, what will be remembered of us when we are no more in this form(flesh) and always remember that when a man dies, his physical world has ended.
