BENIN –  POLITICIANS in Edo State are worried over the postponement of the National Assembly election scheduled for this weekend.

This is due to claims that majority of them are broke after spending huge sums of money mobilizing their supporters  for the botched election.

Most of them who spoke to Vanguard on condition of anonymity, said that they spent so much money  settling their thugs and coordinators in the 18 local government areas of the state.

Vanguard investigation showed that the worst hit were aspirants of the opposition political parties in the state, such as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and others, who lamented that they lacked the resources to match the ruling  Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

It was gathered that banks refused to grant them overdraft because of  uncertainty over the ability of the aspirants to offset credit lines already extended to them. It was also gathered that some of the ACN candidates are  broke and experiencing same problems but the belief in the camp of the  PDP was that the ACN had access to the state resources therefore they don’t have much problem.

According to a chieftain of one of the leading opposition parties in the state who spoke to Vanguard, “most of us were made to contribute huge sum of money for this election.”
