Oshodi-Apapa Expressway: Juliius Berger, FG to finalise contract

By Emma Ujah, Abuja Bureau Chief
Construction giants, Julius Berger Plc, yesterday, reacted to the confusion surrounding the award of the contract for the rehabilitation of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, saying it was working closely with the Federal Ministry of Works towards finalizing the contract documents.

The Minister of Works, Senator Sanusi Dagash had claimed that the contract had been awarded to Berger and Borini Prono.

In a terse statement in Abuja, yesterday, the company’s Public Affairs Manager, Mr. Clement Iloba, said Julius Berger was confident that it would be mobilized immediately after finalizing the papers.

The statement reads in full; “for the sake of clarity, we wish to point out that no authorized representative of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc made statements to the press regarding the Apapa-Oshodi road contract.  “To clarify any misconceptions, the Federal Government did provide a letter of award to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and JBN did accepted this letter of award on November 26, 2010.

“Our engineers are working closely with the Ministry to finalize details of the works, which will be included in the final contractual documents.

“We are confident that the mobilization will take place immediately following the conclusion of the outstanding details”.
