The convention of Traditional rulers, Community Development Committee chairmen, youths and women leaders of all the communities in Bayelsa State has lauded Governor Timipre Sylva’s developmental and reform initiatives.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting between the Governor and the various communities, they noted that reform programmes such as the Bayelsa Expenditure and Income Transparency Initiatives, BEITI, the Medium Term Expenditure Frame Work, MTEF, the Bayelsa State Sustainable Development Strategy and the Fiscal Responsibility Law should be sustained.
The forum also commended the community leaders for keeping the peace in the communities and mandated the state government to periodically consult communities.
The participants, drawn from the various communities in the eight local government areas of the state for a review of the Governor’s performance in office in the last four years, agreed to the recognition of the communities as another tier of government to be funded and developed in the next four years.
Governor Sylva had earlier admitted that though there were challenges, his administration had recorded various successes.
He promised to concentrate on the development of the state educational sector if re-elected in the April polls.
