Bayelsa govt dethrones paramount ruler in Bayelsa

Yenagoa – The Bayelsa Government has ordered the dethronement of the paramount ruler of Otuasega community in Ogbia Local Government, Chief Christopher Omonibo, Obonema Asega the XIII.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the decision of the government was conveyed to Omonibo through the Secretary of the Traditional Rulers council in a letter from the office of the deputy governor with reference No: Dgo/214/vol.1/241.

The letter directed the dethroned ruler to hand over the community’s property in his possession to the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Mr Oturu Tiger.

It added that any government instrument in his possession regarding his recognition had become invalid.

Following this development, the Otuasega community has advised members of the public to deal with only the CDC chairman, the Council of Chiefs and elders on matters concerning the community.

The community warned that anybody who engaged in any deal with the deposed ruler on matters concerning the community would be doing so at his or her own risk.

NAN reports that no reason was given for the dethronement of the monarch.
