LAGOS—A member of a six-man robbery gang met his waterloo, when he was shot dead during exchange of fire with anti-robbery policemen in Maryland area of Lagos State.
The robbers, as gathered, stormed Aminu Street in three motorcycles, where they attempted to carry a out a house-to-house operation.
They were said to have robbed residents of number 18 of cash, phones and other valuables and were at the verge of striking at the next building when anti-riot policemen from Anthony swooped on them, thereby leading to a gun duel.
According to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, an automatic pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition, was recovered at the end of the exchange of gun fire.
One of their operational motorcycles, he added, was also abandoned by the robbers, adding that efforts were still on to arrest the other members of the gang.
Meanwhile, an unidentified man was Sunday night crushed by a vehicle along the Oshodi/Apapa expressway. The deceased was said to have been crossing the road when a fast moving vehicle with an unknown registration number ran over him, at Five star bus-stop.
Efforts by sympathizers to rush the man to the nearest hospital failed as he reportedly breathed his last before help could come.
His remains according to Mba , had been deposited at the mortuary.
