Immediate past Health Commissioner in Imo State, Dr. Vin Udokwu, has been released by his abductors who kept him in captivity for about five months.

News of the ex-commissioner’s release spread like a wild fire last Sunday night and by Monday morning, his country home at Amaifeke, Orlu local council area of Imo State, quickly transformed to a Mecca of sorts.

A very close family source, who told Vanguard that the number of visitors continued to increase by the minute and he had to be moved to Owerri, also disclosed that a nurse in Udokwu’s private hospital was taken away by  suspected kidnappers.

News about the circumstances surrounding the kidnap of the nurse was very sketchy at press time and it was not also clear where this fresh kidnap victim was taken to and the group responsible for the act.

It was not clear at press time if Udokwu’s family parted with money before his release but he looked emaciated and wore long bears, which amply demonstrated what he passed through.

Vanguard gathered that one of the early callers to Udokwu’s Owerri residence was the Chief of Staff to Imo State governor, Mr. Emma Ohakim, who thanked God for keeping the kidnap victim alive throughout his ordeal.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer in the State Police Headquarters, Owerri, who did not want his name in print confirmed Udokwu’s release from captivity.
