Taraba begins polio immunisation

Taraba Mobilisation Committee on the eradication of wild polio virus and other child-killer diseases has begun a routine immunisation exercise in the state.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the launch of the programme at Garin Dogo Village in Lau Local Government Area, yesterday, was marked by the administration of polio vaccines to some children by Alhaji Abubakar Danburam, the Chief of the area.

Inaugurating the programme, the state’s Commissioner of Health, Malam Mohammed Bose, said the current approach to fighting the disease would lead to its being eradicated in the state.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Simon Ambitah, said the state had not recorded any case of polio in the past two years.

He urged parents to always bring their children for immunisation to assist the government in wiping out the disease.

The Commissioner also used the event to praise the effort of partners and donor agencies for their concern in ensuring the well being of children in the state.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Salihu Abbare, commended the committee for its prompt response and adequate sensitisation to the rural areas.
