Perhaps, global leaders of mobile device manufacturing, Nokia, may have sworn to give counterfeiters a serious close marking until their last product is stamped out of mobile markets across the world.

This is as the company has perfected an SMS warranty system through which people can tell the genuineness of the phone they are about to purchase.

The company said the system was designed to ensure that Nokia users do not fall prey to vendors of counterfeit devices.
It also added that the SMS Warranty Awareness drive will be focusing on educating customers at point of sale before and after purchase of their Nokia phones.

Nokia’s Head of Care services, Mr Silvin Sinan who announced the new development,  explained that to determine if a device being bought is genuine or not, all the buyer needs to do was to send an SMS of the IMEI number, which is available on the phone package, to a short code 32053.

He added that the buyer will then receive a short message that the phone has a 12_month Nigeria_warranty.
According to Sinan, non_receipt of this message would automatically mean that the device is counterfeit.

Sinan, said that this new system now offers Nokia users an easier way to determine if their phone has a valid warranty, adding that the Nokia warranty starts from the date of purchase and guarantees the user of repair at no cost and even replacement in the event of malfunction.
