OWERRI—The Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Goodluck Opiah, has said the machinery of government could not grind to a halt because a few individuals have vowed to oppose every policy and programme of the administration.
Chief Opiah, who made this known at a press conference in Owerri, ahead of the declaration of Governor Ikedi Ohakim’s second term bid, also reasoned that the administration had recorded successes, despite distractions from the opposition.
“It must be very clear that whether the opposition sheathe their sword and join the administration in the current crusade to make Imo and its people better or not, governance will not be grounded,” Opiah said.
Noting that the State Assembly was proud of the achievements of the governor, the speaker also recalled with glee that Ohakim had connected the state to the national grid.
“The governor has attracted federal amenities worth billions of Naira to the state. He is extraordinarily steadfast, focused and committed to improve Imo, despite stiff opposition,” Opiah said.
He appealed to the citizenry to exercise patience as a contracting firm had already commenced work on the dilapidated Nekede bridge.
Director General of Ohakim Campaign Organization, Chief Ralph Obioha, explained that Ohakim’s dream was “to simply build an all-inclusive Imo State, where people are judged by the content of their character and their contribution to the betterment of all and sundry, and not just their bank accounts”.
