Security alert in Abuja

By Emma AMAIZE, Warri
THERE was security alert in Abuja, as Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, MEND, 16 days after its “Operation Gate Crasher”  that claimed no fewer than 10 lives on Independence Day, issued a  notice that it would carry out another bomb attack on the nation’s seat of power.

In a swift reaction yesterday, the Police high command in a statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu said last night that MEND is just trying to put’ us under seige but Police will take every stern measure to ensure they don’t succeed’.

Information available to Saturday Vanguard and which was corroborated by a security source  , last night, indicated that the militant group has returned to the mangrove swamps in preparation for a resumption of hostilities”.

MEND spokesman, Jomo Gbomo in an online statement, linked the decision to carry out fresh bomb explosion to the biased demeanor of the Nigerian and South-African governments in picking up innocent persons and making them to face Kangaroo trial for the bombing that the group had claimed responsibility for.

“As usual,  we will give a thirty minutes advance warning to avoid civilian casualties then sit back and watch how the blame game will be played out on all those already falsely accused”, the group said in the statement.

Also all armed forces and inteligence units have been put on alert specially trained anti-terror officer combing FCT, same with police bomb units.
