‘Tour operators need endowment fund’

The Conservator General of the Nigerian National Park Service (NNPS), Alhaji Haruna Tanko Abubakar, has urged the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) to establish an endowment fund for tour operators to finance their business besides having adequate knowledge of the products and services they are rendering.

The Conservator General of NNPS, Alhaji Haruna Tanko Abubakar made this call when he paid a courtesy call to the Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe in the tourism village, Abuja.

Alhaji Haruna Tanko Abubakar, who was accompanied by his top management staff, also reaffirmed the need to rebuild its long_standing partnership with the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC).

“The purpose of this visit is to rebuild the long cordial relationship between The National Park Service and the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation and to commend the management of NTDC for moving Nigerian Tourism forward”

As the custodian of the National Parks which house the country’s flora and fauna, he informed the NTDC’s boss of the progress made in the area of eco-tourism development at the various parks in the country.

He said that much has been done in the area of eco-tourism stating that this is where the NNPS comes in.
As the former General Manager of Yankari National Park, the NNPS helmsman relived the cordial working relationship he enjoyed with the NTDC and observed that the relationship appears to be slacking.

He called for a revitalization of the partnership with NTDC by way of producing jingles, billboards and a national eco_tourism expo as a way of promoting tourism in Nigeria.

He intimated the NTDC Boss that the corporation has a representative in the management board of NNPS and promised that as soon as the man.

He further solicited the assistance of the NTDC Boss in facilitating that the Nigerian Immigration Service eliminates bottlenecks in visa procurement in order to attract tourists into the country.

Responding, Otunba Runsewe thanked the delegation for coming to NTDC stating that the visit was timely as it compliments the mandate of the committee on the repositioning of Parks set up by the Minister of the FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed of which he is the chairman.

Responding further to observations made by the NNPS Boss, the NTDC DG revealed that the zonal offices of NTDC “are waxing strong” stating that NTDC and NNPS need to form a strong synergy, intimating that NTDC does not believe in seminars and workshops but rather impacting on the Nigerian people.
