Two Nigerian coaches on Sunday hailed the Super Eagles as they began their 2012 African Cup of Nations campaign with a 2_0 win over Madagascar in Calabar.
Obafemi Martins and Michael Eneramo scored the two first half goals to earn the hosts the maximum points at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in the Cross River capital.
Paul Hamilton said he was satisfied with the team’s performance for taking the goal tally to two after their recent average of one.
“I am happy with the result because the boys scored more than a goal which the national team was noted for lately,” he said.
He commended coach Austin Eguavoen’s inclusion of some local players in the team, urging him to maintain the practice in other qualifying matches.
“More younger players should be introduced into the team. That way, the confidence of the players will increase and the competition for shirts would be very keen,” Hamilton said.
He commended the officiating, adding: “The referee did a very good job’’.
Joe Erico, former Eagles goalkeeper trainer, also lauded the team, describing their performance as a good outing.
“It was a good game. The team deserved to be commended having scored two goals and did not concede any.
