STAKEHOLDERS in the nation’s power sector said that for economic growth challenge in Nigeria to be resolved, electricity supply must be improved. Speaking at the Nigerian Academy of Engineering lecture, held at the University of Lagos, Professor Frank Nwoye Okafor, Commissioner, Engineering Standards and Safety, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, said that there is general agreement that appropriate tariffs are essential to any rapid development of electricity supply.

THE Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, yesterday, said despite the poor generation nationwide, power delivery had picked up in Sapele, Delta State, with the residents enjoying more than six hours of electricity daily.

Nigeria’s electricity sector has continued to deteriorate especially in the last one week when system collapse, gas and water constraints nearly brought power supply to a halt.

“FOR or more than two years now, Niger State has been in darkness.”
These were the words of aggrieved Niger State youths protesting unbearable power outages in the state.

The Federal Government has apologized to Nigerians for the hardship they are going through due to the drop in power supply across the country and blamed it on gas failure as well as sabotage and vandalization of power infrastructure.

This quote aptly sums up the difference between technical/vocational (Tech/Voc) schools and traditional schools. The former is steeped in hands-on training while the latter is focused on theory. Technical/vocational education, designed to bring vocational and technical training to its students, cannot be overlooked by any nation serious about technological advancement or any form of development for that matter.
