The Minister of State for Environment, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has launched the National Deratization Framework Exercise to prevent and control the spread of Lassa fever in the country.

“Thereafter, a total of 32 suspected cases were line-listed and samples collected. Six cases were confirmed positive, with five deaths and a male-female ratio of 1:1.

The Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Dr Jide Idris, has officially acknowledged the outbreak of Lassa fever in Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State Government has reacted to a suspected outbreak of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever popularly known as “Lassa fever,” at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said it registered 411 confirmed cases and 72 deaths from Lassa fever across 21 states of the federation from week one to week six of 2024.

”Lassa fever is a killer disease. People should stop eating rats. Do not allow it to come into contact with your food,” the director advised.

The Cross River State Ministry of Health has raised the alarm over an outbreak of Lassa fever, which has already claimed one life in the Ejah Community of Osupong Ward 1, Obubra Local Government Area of the state.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported a sharp increase in Lassa fever cases in week 51 of 2023.
