MORE than 21 days after a Delta State government burrow pit overshot its bounds and wreaked havoc on residents of Aribogha Street and environs at Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, the state government is yet to come to the rescue of victims.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reiterated its earlier advice to states and local governments to immediately relocate residents of communities along rivers, waterways and flood-prone areas to safer grounds to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and property. The agency anchored the warning on expert predictions of impending heavy rains and devastating floods.

The Cross River Government has expressed dismay that it was not listed by the Federal Government among states likely to be affected by flood this year.

With the noticeable rise in the water levels of River Benue, the state government has urge those living in flood-prone areas to vacate such areas to avert a looming disaster.

NO less than seven people lost their lives in a rampaging flood as a result of heavy rainfall in Calabar, Cross River State, Wednesday night.

Bauchi State, it would appear, is still battling to come to terms with the lives lost and property destroyed during recent flood incidents in the state. Many residents of the state, especially those living in the rural areas were forced to abandon their homes to seek refuge elsewhere, even in unpleasant places. Precisely on August 15, 2013, there was a heavy downpour that lasted for several hours in the state. The resultant flood affected several households as many buildings collapsed and properties were destroyed.

KANO—The Executive Secretary of Kano State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency, KSERA, Alhaji Ali Bashir, yesterday, confirmed that no fewer than 515 houses were lost to flood occasioned by heavy down pour between Friday and Sunday, in about seven local Government areas of the state.
