The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a deal with German company, Siemens Ag in its bid to find a lasting solution to electricity problems to perennial power challenges in the country.

 Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, says the institution will complete its power generating plant in October.

There’s excruciating pain across the country as Nigeria’s electricity supply continues to relapse to as low as 3,000 megawatts. This is against the 40,000 megawatts the country requires to function optimally.

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, in a landmark judgment, has ordered the “immediate release of details of payments to all defaulting and allegedly corrupt electricity contractors and companies by the governments of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and the government of Muhammadu Buhari.”

THERE are indications that electricity consumers will witness full supply in the South-East States of Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi, as Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, has paid N2.433 billion to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, thus enabling it to be reconnected to the national grid.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja urged Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) to work harder in injecting more resources and technical expertise to improve supply of electricity across the country.

Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), said it has commenced the roll out of meters for customers in the Shomolu Business Unit under the Meter Asset Provider scheme.

The visionary drive of innovative scientists such as Michael Faraday, Benjamin Franklin and their watershed inventions towards the use of electricity can be said to be predicated on humanitarianism as against luxury purposed. If this is the case, let there be light for everybody because in the beginning it was said too.

NIGERIANS are desirous of a growth in the power sector. Such growth or progression, hopefully, is to be predicated on regular power supply, eradication of estimated billing through the provision of meters to all customers and efficient service delivery by the distribution companies (Discos) who are at the end of the power sector value chain.

Electricity Generating Companies (GenCos) comprising gas-fired and hydro stations released an average of 3, 919 MegaWatts (MW) of power into the national grid on Monday, a daily energy report has said.
