The purported suspension of former Governor Victor Attah by Akwa Ibom state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] on allegations of being reactionary and refractory has been condemned by some high profile politicians of Ibibio origin who have also threatened to leave the party should the situation, which they fear could degenerate into an ethnic war, continue.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), prosecuting the former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and five others over alleged inflation and contract splitting, yesterday, closed its case as the defendants open their defence.

Following a wide spread rumour to disrupt road transport operation in some parts of the state, the leadership of Lagos chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), yesterday, disassociated itself from the speculation, saying there was no such plan by its members to suspend commercial vehicles operations in the state.

ABAKALIKI—LOCAL government councils in Ebionyi state have expressed worry, over the huge deductions from their monthly federal allocations, which they say is affecting their priority projects and making it difficult for them to fulfil their electoral promises to the people of their councils.
