Contemporary artists move beyond photojournalistic gaze
The Lagos Photo Foundation holds its fifth edition of the annual Lagos Photo Festival in Lagos, Nigeria. It is the first and only international arts festival of photography in Nigeria. In a month long program, events include exhibitions, workshops, artist presentations, discussions, screenings, and large scale outdoor installations in congested public spaces in Lagos. Lagos Photo aims to provide a platform for the development and education of contemporary photography in Africa by establishing mentorship and cross-cultural collaborations with local and international artists. Lagos Photo 2014 features forty photographers spanning across twenty-one countries.
FG Launches National Policy on Ageing
In effort to provide a sustainable national framework for the care of older persons in the country, federal government has announced that it will soon launch a National Policy on Ageing in the country. The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina announced this on Tuesday at the opening of a 2-Day National Summit on Ageing and Older Persons, organized by her ministry in collaboration with Dave Omokaro Foundation and other stakeholders, to mark this year’s International Day of Older Persons in Abuja.
