I LEFT the shores of Nigeria in 1984 to “God’s own country”, the United States of America, USA, to seek greener pastures and for the actualisation of self esteem, after a few years spell as a journalist with one of the country’s top tabloids, the Punch.

FOR every action, there should be a reaction. For every position held, there should be a day of accounting. It is true that, from the days of the First Republic, an overwhelming percentage of those who held public office invariably walked away without giving an account of their stewardship. That is why society is brimming with past political office holders, civilian and military, reputed to be millionaires and billionaires whose sources of affluence dare not be publicly declared.

WHENEVER a newly appointed public office holder newly sets out by criticising and even underplaying all the efforts of his or her predecessor that is a red flag. This was precisely my earliest concern about the competence of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi years ago when he was named Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
