ONE of my recent articles, “The problem with the striking doctors”, elicited a number of responses from my readers. Some of them called me on the phone, some sent text messages and others sent e-mails.

The dancing obscenity of Shekau and his gang of psychopaths and child abductors, taunting the world, mocking the BRING BACK OUR GIRLS campaign on internet, finally met its match in Nigeria to inaugurate the week of September 11 – most appropriately. Shekau’s danse macabre was surpassed by the unfurling of a political campaign banner that defiled an entry point into Nigeria’s capital of Abuja. That banner read: BRING BACK JONATHAN 2015.

The financial crisis during 2008 and 2009, and its devastating effects on the socio-economic conditions of many people have made bankers the least trusted of all trades in Europe and North America. Statistics also show that sometimes unjustified salaries and bonuses are contributory factors to banking’s image problem.

EVIL forest embodies frighteningly bizarre connotations. Evil forest is usually given to strangers to claim and inhabit on the conviction that it will consume them and rubblish their arrogance. This is the conviction upon which the Umuofians gave the white missionaries the evil forest to occupy in Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart.

September 11, 2001 will not be easily forgotten by Americans and the entire world. It marked the longest most tragic day in the history of mankind (as at then), with a recorded death of about 3,000 people.
