THERE are two kinds of Buharists: The Classic Buharists and the Neo-Buharists. The Classic Buharists genuinely love Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. To them, he is the epitome of a true leader. They truly believe he is all they say he is. They think he is not corrupt and that he is even incorruptible. Their devotion to the man they like to call the “People’s General” is total; bordering on worship. No contrary argument can burst their bubble. In fact, you dare to persuade them that Gen. Buhari is not the man they think him to be at your peril. Violence, verbal and/or physical, comes natural to them when they think you denigrate GMB.

The most amazing thing happened Thursday. Amazing, because in a rare Freudian slip, the Governor of Lagos state, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola revealed what he really thought about old people in governance. Splashed on the Front Page of The Tribune on Thursday the 15th of January, 2015 was the headline ‘Agbaje too Old to Rule Lagos’.

I promised to shut up and take a long break but since I had asked Obasanjo to disappear and he won’t, I thought I should dart in with some justification as to why he really ought to be told to shut up and disappear, and, for me, personally, also to say to him: you can’t fool me. It is a slightly revised version of a comment I offered in another discussion. It should explain itself.

Almost immediately following the news of the first terrorist attacks that eventually killed 17 people across France, the global community united around a Twitter hashtag “Je suis Charlie” and just days later foreign leaders linked arms with their French counterparts to lead a historic million-person strong rally.

As a father of five daughters, whenever I think of Muhammadu Buhari, what comes to my mind is a regime that was completely insensitive to the feminine gender.
