One of the main focus of the management of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) led by Oscar Onyema since assumption of office in 2011 has been to re-package companies quoted on the NSE and make them globally acceptable. To achieve the objective, the Exchange had over the period set certain standards which quoted companies are required to adhere to. It has also organised road-shows to some international markets to show-case Nigerian brands. IT is no more news that Nigeria as a nation state is an accidental creation, given the manner the British did it. It was not a consensus creation as the different ethnic groups that make up the nation were not carried along and this laid the foundation for discord which has affected the nation up till date. There is nothing wrong in bringing people from diverse ethnic groups to form a nation but this can only work when the people agree to the arrangement; we have many examples where forced marriages of this kind have failed, like the old Yugoslavia and the present crisis in Ukraine to mention but a few.

IN seizing power from General Gowon(80),the then Military ruler, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed (1938-76) told the nation on July 30 1975 that: “this Government will not tolerate indiscipline. The Government will not condone abuse of office”. He kept his word.

THE ritual of 100 days in office had acquired spiritual, political, historical and social toga in our democractic dispenasation. It has become a landmark to measure what the future tells and its impact on socio-political progress of any administration. This culture entrenched by Western democracy began when the prefect of Paris in a speech welcoming Napoleon Bonaparte’s return home on March 20, 1815 from exile, made reference to it, and with time elected leaders celebrate 100 days in office.

IT was a mammoth gathering at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, South South Nigeria, on the 15th of August, 2015. It was a gathering of defecting politicians, crossing over from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Party (APC). The crowd in the stadium that day could not be less than four thousand people, talking of the politicians, their supporters and the usual hired political hoodlums. It was an embarrassing defection to PDP as nearly every leader of the party in the State left to join “the-all-saints” party of APC.
