A Biafra-like agitation for independence has been unfolding in neighbouring Republic of Cameroon since November 2016. The people of Northern and Southern Cameroons under the umbrella of the Southern Cameroons Ambazonia Consortium United Front (SCACUF) finally decided to affirm the independence of the English-speaking sections of Cameroon from the Republic. Like the Indigenous People of Biafra, the Ambazonians as they have called themselves since 1984, are protesting against their alleged marginalization by the dominant Francophone Cameroon and the Paul Biya government in Yaounde.

When the Senate of a nation would overrule the peoples’ popular demand for restructure – a return to the federalist constitution that gave birth to the nation, are they now not calling up the query ‘whose interests are you serving?’ This unpleasant action is also inviting a certain crises, because the people do not give up to such usurpation of their power as cases have shown in Nigeria past.

THE Judiciary is that branch of government invested with the judicial powers; the system of courts in a country; the body of judges; the bench. That branch of government which is intended to interpret, construe and apply the law.

THE latest onslaught on Nigerians took place a few days ago with the killing of one Mr. Clement Ofoma in South Africa. The 35-year-old Ofoma  was  a  native of Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. According to the embittered wife of the victim; about 10 South African policemen arrested him for allegedly dealing in drugs. “They searched our house, his store and other places, but did not find any substance. In the process, they tortured him to confess where he kept the drugs, but my husband insisted he had nothing. The police used cellophane bag to cover his face and at a point, he was struggling to breathe and became unconscious. By the time they took him to a hospital, he was pronounced dead”, she said.
