WHEN Dr.  Chinweoke Mbadinuju (Odera) became the Governor of Anambra State on May 29, 1999 at the beginning of the fourth republic, after defeating Prof. A.B.C. Nwosu in the PDP primaries, his administration was nothing to write home about. Civil Servants were owed salaries, teachers were not paid and retirees were  owed their gratuities and pensions.

UNDOUBTEDLY, the  cancellation  this month, of the boats pilotage  monitoring and supervision agreement, which the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, on behalf of the Federal Government  had with the INTELS Nigeria Limited  since 2010  has deepened the controversy  which has inundated the  contract  since the beginning of this year .

LAST weekend’s campaign flag-off by Dr. Tony Nwoye, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the Anambra State governorship election was a shock to many. The massive turnout of supporters who came to identify with Dr. Nwoye at the flag-off has also been variously qualified as surprising and stupefying.

IN the next few months the campaign for the 2019 Presidential election will commence. Already there are moves by many politicians to forge alliances with various groups across the country, all aimed at ensuring that they find a place of reckoning in 2019, as every good politician seeks to be relevant at all times.

Chiefly their dressing is characterised by the finely embroided wrapper with an over flowing top, mainly of the white colour. Some of them have chosen to go with the now known Goodluck Jonathan attire. Well read and groomed in all professions of the world, they seem to know it all, the nation’s conscience and the embodiments of democracy.
