I read, in the August 29 edition of Thisday Newspaper, the grave allegations made by an Australian by the name of Mr. Stephen Davis about those that he believes are behind Boko Haram.

He made some very serious allegations; he mentioned names and I would be interested in seeing the hard evidence that he claims to have.

BOKO HARAM is, perhaps, the luckiest insurgent group operating in the world right now. It has at its easy disposal, an array of foot soldiers and avenues for the dissemination of its propaganda; that mind game of war and politics which, when effectively deployed, wears down the enemy before the weapons of military destruction arrive to finish him off.

HONOUR, discipline, incorruptibility, patriotism and courage all ran, simultaneously, in her DNA, yes in DNA – Dora Nkem Akunyili. Reigning female world leaders like Angela Merkel of Germany, Dilma Rousseff of Brazil, Christina de Kirchner of Argentina and Helen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia are perhaps no match for her in all the indices. If all were individual sporting events in an Olympic Games, she would stand in pole position to clinch all gold medals!

A witty political godfather exerts immeasurable influences and compels irresistible obedience from his helpless beneficiaries. Such unbending manipulation played out during the events that led to the impeachment of Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, the erstwhile deputy governor of Enugu State.

Mouths are still aghast as to how Onyebuchi ignored wise counsel and chose the inglorious path charted by people who wanted to use him to test the viability of their political strength. As it has now turned out, it was a worthless gamble.

FIGURES from the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, show that for 2012, the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, for the 36 states of Nigeria was about N555 billion, out of which the 19 states of the North generated N87 billion or 15 %; the South West generated N261.2 billion or 47%; the South-South accounted for N150 billion or 27% and the South East N45 billion or 8%. In other words, the South generated N 468 or 85 % of the total IGR for 2012.

NIGERIA’S former military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida recently attained the age of 73, and he chose to celebrate it by dwelling on national issues such as states creation, insecurity, politics and of course general state of the nation. While I relished IBB’S interview in two newspapers, Thisday and Daily Trust, I however took exception to his view about state creation, mostly as it concerns the South East.

ALL truly concerned stakeholders, honest observers and indeed, dispassionate analysts, are already dilating on not only who takes the baton from incumbent Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, but how he/she will emerge as preparations gather momentum by the day.
