IT is quite unfortunate and pathetic that many people saw, but only few conquered. Political calculation and loyalty is one of the greatest attributes of a good politician, but this cannot be said of Chris Akomas, the impeached Deputy Governor of Abia State.

THE sudden and desperate efforts to change the rules of the game midway will make the Igbos another weeping boy of the Nigerian politics. Igbos will again become victims of political frustrations in Nigeria.

NOT many citizens of a country can be close to their president, even though he is an elected leader. Forget it, there is nothing like ‘military president’.

IT is rightly said that politics is a game of number, conflict and compromise. It is a game of transitory alliances but permanent interests, even when there are no permanent friends and foes. In the entire nation as the year 2011 is fast approaching the political fervour is increasing, interests are allying and old alliances are shifting like quicksand.

A CERTAIN Shuabu Attanda was arrested in Lagos few weeks ago for being in possession of a bag containing 70 dead babies. According to the report, the man was trying to dump the corpses when he was apprehended. Police report later confirmed that the man in question was neither a ritualist nor a child trafficker as was originally suspected.

SINCE Orji assumed office his greatest problem which had attracted hatred and criticisms from the people was his close relationship with Kalu who many allegedly see as a problem in the state. His overbearing intrusion in Orji’s government was so glaring that on several occasions they disagreed on issues and appointments of aides.

The main issue for determination in the above case is the Nigeria law in item 15 (b) of the third schedule of the 1999 constitution which provides as follows: “The commission shall have power to register political parties in accordance with the provisions of this constitution and an Act of the National Assembly”.

When I heard the news that Polytechnic graduates would soon be flushed out of the Nigerian Civil Service, my mind was in doubt if this country is sincerely committed to its developmental goals. Why should a country map out goals for development and afterwards erect strictures to stall their attainment? To discount products of technical education and still hope to achieve the vision 20:2020 is nothing but tomfoolery.

To say that Nigeria is a lucky country is an incontestable understatement. And I know that those invisible hands that have held Nigeria together since its creation will not slumber despite the vexatious strain Nigeria’s lack of patriotism has put on the union

The renowned journalist and master of prose, the late Dele Giwa, who first used the title above, must have the like of Dimeji Bankole, speaker of the House of Representatives, in mind when he did so in a sinister context.

As I read reports of the event I keep thinking why is it that only foreign leaders care enough about Africa and its troubles to engage the people. How many of our leaders have held such parley with the youths except it is for self-serving political projects like the numerous foolish endorsements from delinquent youth organization for irresponsible political leaders in Nigeria?
