In 2011, the then Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology and now Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki single-handedly moved a motion on the floor of the Senate calling for an investigation into how N240 billion budgeted for fuel subsidy for the whole of 2011 had skyrocketed to over N1.2 trillion under ten months. 

By March 31, the nine-month window provided by the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme, VAIDS, for tax defaulters to regularize their tax affairs will close. From the look of things, the closure will be accompanied by a big bang. I await the VAIDS deadline day like a cup final.

Back in 1996, when the the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, licensed 38 internet service providers to sell internet services in Nigeria, many ICT experts expressed the view that the development would lead to the end of traditional television as a medium of influence. I do not think there is anybody in the modern age with a doubt that the internet is a powerful medium of communication.

History is filled with instances where  nations revived their economies with bold ideas, taken on by well-marshaled, carefully crafted and patiently executed plans. Through its enlightened interventionist policies, a  government  must  bring succour to teeming millions.
