SINCE 1999, the dominant thinking in the executive branch of government in Nigeria has been one that favours the ancient aristocratic system of government in which small elite that constitutes the executive arm held sway.

FOR a government that is yet to deliver any spectacular benchmark against its self-imposed messianic mission and the wellspring of support that heralded its rise to power, it is understandable that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari’s first 100 days in office has been mired in controversy.

A COUNTRY that cannot guarantee regular electricity supply to its citizens will remain grounded in the production and manufacturing sectors. What this means is that there will be stunted development. In a report by Premium Times online edition of October 8, 2015, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo addressing members of the manufacturing association of Nigeria (MAN) admonished them to brace up for electricity tariff increases.

AN Igbo proverb says “If you know what will bring dispute don’t do it”. This implies that when a person or group of persons, decide to do things that will bring dispute, it is either that they have assessed their victim as a weakling, or they simply think that they can cause trouble, and get away with it.

My friendship with Dr. Chuba Wilberforce Okadigbo (1941-2003),the Oyi of Oyi began in 1977 when I covered the proceedings of the constituent assembly. The friendship cemented fully when I covered the Presidential campaign between 1978 and 1979. So when President Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari(90) appointed Dr. Okadigbo as a Special Adviser in December 1979, I made several attempts, as a friend, to visit him in his office in the then Dodan Barracks in Lagos which was then the seat of the Presidency.

IN this dispensation of “Change” , it is consoling that a personage like Dr. Osagie E. Ehanire is among the nominees for ministerial positions. As an accomplished medical doctor/surgeon he has distinguished himself in the medical profession and politics.

The well publicised denial of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, APC’s godfather, kingmaker and supremo, of having anything to do with a purported conspiracy between him and the president of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, against President Buhari for which the presidency was said to have placed the former governor of Lagos State under security watch, was laced with poison and betrayed the seething emotions of a man who is upset at the sailor of the ship he built but which has left him behind at shore without consideration that he is fast sliding into a lonely lurch.

When on the 16th of Ocober , 1960, Chief Victor Remilekun Fani-Kayode and his delectable wife, Chief Mrs Adia Adunni Fani-Kayode gave birth to a son after their royal lineage and named him David Oluwafemi Fani-Kayode, little did they understand the enormous divine implications and assignment they placed on the shoulders of their lovely son.
