Not long ago, the peaceful, self-subsistence farming community of Ndi Okereke Abam, Arochukwu LGA, Abia State, was attacked by the now notorious, AK-47 rifle wielding, bow and arrow bearing marauders masquerading as Hausa/Fulani herdsmen. By the time they were through with the unarmed, government abandoned community, seven persons, all from Ndi Okereke Abam, were down, fatally injured. They are still recuperating in hospitals in the area.

When Bukola Saraki’s trial opened at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) earlier this year, we all thought we were watching the premature end of an outstanding political career. If anyone had predicted back then that one year after, Saraki would still be addressed as the Senate President, no one would have believed. As court after court dismissed his attempts to stop his trial at the tribunal, it looked certain that Saraki’s political days were numbered.

Last week, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi was elected the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a mini congress of the party which held in Abuja. That position had been vacant for about a year since Lai Mohammed, the former spokesperson and face of the party, accepted a well-deserved cabinet position in the government. The party’s search for a suitable replacement apparently ended with the former minister; the first time that someone who has held a cabinet level position would be occupying that office.

I will never forget these words. How I wish that my friend and brother, Governor Nasir El Rufai, expressed the same level of angst, cold rage, chilling resolve and passion for vengeance after the murder of millions of defenceless and innocent non-Fulanis, including women and children, in his own Kaduna state and indeed all over the country since the coming to power of the Buhari regime one year and seven months ago.
