A trip is often defined by its urprises, so here are my biggest revelations from six days in Lagos, Nigeria.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) participated in the 2015 general elections in Delta State without making impact in the state. It recorded no single electoral victory and failed to win any local government area in the gubernatorial election. Not even the 25 percent mark required in the presidential election was achieved. It was a colossal failure.

1984 must have been one of the proudest moments in the history of the Mass Communication Department, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. It was the year Kingsley Osadolor, a product of the department, emerged the best graduating student in the university, with a cumulative score of 3.84 out of a possible 4.0. At the convocation, he had given a valedictory speech said to be the best in the history of the university. Dr. Pat Utomi, another alumnus of the department, had just served as Special Assistant to President Shagari.

In the North, they are taught the rudiments of the art of politics at a very tender age. Sometimes, they are taught politics in the places of worship. As I have noticed, Islam has a bit of politics intertwined in its teachings. The average Northerner has a transistor radio that is tuned to BBC Hausa. Politics is taught in the local language, Hausa.

I AM confident that Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, loves the Urhobos of Delta but what makes me even happier is the fact that this affection also extends to all ethnic groups in the state and every non-Deltan resident within our boundaries.
