FOR those involved in human capital development, especially in the area of  training and appraisals, there is the concept of  “Programmed To Fail”, PTF; that is, giving someone a job or position without adequate preparation. It is very common in our public and private lives and when the person fails, the blame game begins. As a nation, we have  been programmed for failure from the beginning. 

HOW come the eve of major elections in Nigeria always throws us measly meals, as it were, which we grab with passion and prey on ravenously, not discerning the food’s irredeemable toxicity, not reasoning that what we’re consuming could end up consuming us? How come when a make-or-mar ballot approaches, in tow too is a host of hell hoisting a holocaust of horrors? How come election season is when we elect to display the worst in us, our ‘angels’ the most culpable? How come we all run mad and dance naked in the marketplace as soon as we hear the jingles of political parties positioning for polling day? How come at election,we drop our thinking cap so we can become light for fight over slight matters that won’t unite but disunite us? How come we hardly realise that after such do-or-die squabbles, we don’t move a flea-hop closer to recognising, reckoning and resolving what’s nibbling at our existence and threatening to destroy us?

The PDP’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku, recently made comments regarding suspension of CJN Onnoghen. Atiku’s release is entitled “State of the nation address”. I encourage everyone to read it. In its disregard for the truth and patent misrepresentations, it will go down in political history as a classic of self-incrimination. Atiku thinks the piece exalts him. Instead it evinces his penchant for wilful misstatement that make him unfit for the office he now seeks and has always coveted.

I have chosen to write this letter to Your Excellency for the enviable role that your country plays as champion of Democracy and the Rule of Law. I am also writing you as Nigeria’s international development partner working together to deepen and strengthen our democracy as well as to help in the transformation of our economies and societies for the better.
