THERE has never been a time as horrible as the present, in the history of Nigeria. I say that because I believe that this government rode to power on the faith that millions of eligible voters had in the incumbent president of the republic. For us to wake up and hear every day, tales of extra judicial killings by security agencies, Fulani terrorism and the segregating actions of a supposedly federal police is just too dangerous for a democracy.

IMMEDIATELY we returned from that journey, I wrote a report to Governor Ogbemudia, the indefatigable soldier, also requesting that mattresses, desks, tables, chairs, cutleries, etc, be bought and sent to them. This request was graciously and speedily granted by this very kind man. Less than a week after our visit, Lories loaded with these items were sent to the schools in the East. In addition, it was decided that some of our students should be taken from our schools and sent to the East to continue their education,

IT was the famous William Shakespeare who said all the world is a stage, and all men and women merely players. They have their entrances and their exits. And so for my Boss, my Oga, my Mentor, my Bosom Friend, the man whom God used to implement my destiny, he has acted his part and has exited the stage. The curtain is closed for him.

FRAYED nerves were soothed when rescue workers finally announced the recovery of the body of the late Dr. Allwell Orji, the medical doctor, who jumped into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.

WHILE criss-crossing the nooks and crannies of all the 192 wards in Edo state during the build-up to the September 2016 governorship election, incumbent governor, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, laid his cards on the table by making clear his vision for the state and its people. Essentially, the vision revolves round a bold determination to rejig the state’s economy and raise it to the level of relative sustainability with or without the monthly deferral revenue allocations. He harped on his intention to separate government from politics in order to avoid the distractive tendencies of political activities which are in practice often crises-ridden and time wasting.

I WAS taking a train in Nigeria for the second time in my life. I have taken trains including high-speed or bullet ones. But these were in Europe, America and Asia. It was not that we had no trains in Nigeria; in fact, long stretches of railways crisscrossing the country had been built by 1898. The problem was that by the time I was old enough to independently undertake journeys, a visionless line of leaders had run the railways aground.

One of the submissions of this column last week was that Nigeria must stop leaving substance to pursue shadows. It was argued that if 25,000 police operatives posted to a state during an election cannot prevent hoodlums from snatching ballot boxes, why should anybody leave that substantive matter to discuss how the Inspector General of Police chooses to dress?

I am humbled and honoured to stand today on behalf of the people of Lagos State and Lagosians in diaspora to salute and congratulate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on many fronts especially his 65thbirthday anniversary that comes up tomorrow.

The philanthropy of Mr. Festus Mbisiogu has touched the lives of many people in some communities in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State . He has helped many people through his various community development projects. Until recently, people in the local council area were struggling to survive without basic amenities such as potable water, good roads and functional health centres. They believed that the government would provide them with all the basic amenities but it is disheartening to note that some of these communities in Ideato South have no clean water, with Urashi River being the only source of water.
