Malam Imam Dalhatu Imam,  my good friend,  brother, schoolmate and colleague departed this world in the early hours of Friday, April 26, 2018, after a brief illness.

The meeting was so  guarded it could have passed for the conclave of the cardinals in search of a Pope.

It certainly was not a conclave of cardinals to elect a Pope. But it came very close.

It was around mid-day on June 29, 2012. I was neck-deep in work when the call I dreaded most came through. The pleasantry was unusual, very curt. The voice at the other end advised me to be strong and take it like a man. Even without saying it, I knew instantly I had lost my dad who had been on admission at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ill-Ife.

I have been watching the unfolding drama in our Senate and I am so amused as well as happy that, for once, a senator, one of their own, is standing up to the upper chambre.

His several travails and circumstances surrounding his ascension to the position of the President of the Senate and subsequent persecution and trials that seem unending since he ascended the position of the Senate President are enough to describe Senator Bukola Saraki as a cat with nine lives.

Without a doubt, communication in our increasingly techno-centric society is being taken over by social media, making it easier to relay and receive messages to and from thousands of people with just a few strokes.

The recent disquiet in the upper chamber   of the National Assembly over the suspension of one its own has   thrown open the debate on whether or not the Senate or indeed any chamber of the National Assembly has the powers to suspend a fellow lawmaker who is in the National Assembly to represent the interest and aspiration of a given constituency.
