In Lagos, banks have shut down as hoodlums take advantage of the commotion. Also, crowds have converged on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the state, as tension rises.

One person is feared dead, several others robbed and wounded as hoodlums hiding under protest over currency redesign hardship attack residents, and motorists in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

“No deadline can render them worthless, ever. The law is on your side. The Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007 and the Bills of Exchange Act,  both oblige the CBN to recognise your old notes and give you value in new notes whenever you bring them to the CBN, even in the next 100 years.”

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday confirmed civil unrest in some parts of the state owing to the current naira scarcity.
