The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Dr. Eugene Juwah, has effected immediate changes in the structure of the Commission, with redeployment of directors and creation of a new department in a move seen as directed towards his announced new focus for the national telecom regulator in the next five years.

Following lapses in the adopted processes for the registration of voters, the umbrella body representing all IT professionals in Nigeria, the Nigeria Computer Society, (NCS) has slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for non-inclusion of the nation’s IT professionals in a matter that borders heavily on professionalism, saying that Nigeria may not achieve best practice in the 2011 elections if the lapses, especially on software were not redressed.

The president of the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigerian CAPDAN; Mr Tunji Balogun at the last meeting held with the Director General of the National Information Development Agency NITDA Professor Cleopas Angaye last year had cried that street traders were choking the life out of registered businesses in the market. NITDA had promised to help but months after, things continue to remain the same in the market.

Driven by technology advancement, ICT and financial experts have called for mobile money inclusion in the system to enable Nigeria share from the bouquet of the emerging mobile money ecosystem in West Africa.

Over one hundred broadcasting experts and ICT leaders across Africa including Nigeria with the representation of the regulatory authority, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, are currently in Johannesburg, South Africa, deliberating on the progress made in the switch over from analogue to digital broadcasting in Africa.
