AHEAD of the actualisation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in the country in the next few months, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has directed network operators to provide the service free to subscribers. Mobile Number Portability allows subscribers to migrate from one service provider to another and still retain their numbers.

The IT Business Incubation Development Centre committee earlier set up the Ministry of Communication Technology has said that most of the ICT departments in Nigerian universities were not updated regularly, resulting in a generally low quality of knowledge among ICT graduates who are potential entrepreneurs.

Second National operator, Globacom has introduced a new roaming package which tends to further unify three African countries, Nigeria, Gnana and Benin Republic. The service offers a uniform local tariff and allows the use of local Glo recharge cards in any of these three countries.

Last week, a number of notable ICT organisations including the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, telecom companies, MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria and second national operator, Globacom rallied round another Nigeria ICT outfit, Logica Media group, which sought to bring the right attitudinal change to the issue of cashless society initiative of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
