Recently the office of the First Lady of Bayelsa State organised the first Bayelsa Fashion Week. A Fashion Week which was born out of the desire to discover new talents, empower Bayelsans, as well as projecting a positive image of a state that has come to be known as the ‘Militant Zone’.

There’s something nostalgic about a good pair of jeans. The consistent nature of my favorite pair is something that I appreciate. They aren’t just pants but a wardrobe staple. Jeans are like a hodge-podge of our life experiences. Like an old loyal friend, they don’t change even though the fashion statement around them does.

Today didn’t go as I had planned. I was set for a photo-shoot. I had scheduled clients and intended to take next steps on an article for Allure. Instead, Maggie, my older daughter, ended up home from school. I cancelled all appointments to take care of her.

Like many water consumers you may never have given this question a thought. Sources of water include wells which taps groundwater. Groundwater is filtered through underground soil layers, and so often does not require much treatment. Lake water (called “surface water”, because it is on top of the land surface) is treated to remove harmful bacteria, solids such as algae and soil, and unpleasant tastes and odours.

The Christian wedding vow is very clear on the man- woman relationship. During any wedding ceremony, the officiating priest or pastor on a final note, usually pronounces that famous line, “what God has joined together, let no man put asunder” . In spite of this, a few couple still allow a stranger come between them.
