THE virtues of the former Green Eagles player, Sam Sochukwuma Okwaraji, who died in the course of rendering service to fatherland some 20 years ago, were extolled high yesterday at a memorial lecture organised in his honour by the Lagos chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

I was the first person he called. He asked me to call the medical personnel in when he appeared to be choking or in some kind of discomfort. He was still on his feet then and the medical team would not be allowed unless the referee so signalled especially when the game was still in play.

Deceased icon, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji, will be remembered today in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as the national U-20 team, Flying Eagles, and the home–based senior team, otherwise known as Super Eagles Team B, play a match in his honour at the National Stadium Complex.
