An attempt by the revenge coup perpetrators to justify the killing of General Aguiyi-Ironsi by linking him with the January 15 failed coup is not accepted by Peter Enahoro’s account. He says that the General was in fact marked down for elimination by If eajuna and that one man that could have exonerated Aguiyi-Ironsi was the Inspector-General of Police, the late Alhaji Kam Salem who the author says telephoned the military commander to inform him that the police were reporting usual troop movements in Lagos.

On assumption of office May 29, 2007 as Nigeria’s third democratically elected President, Alhaji Umar Musa Yar’Adua made adherence to the rule of law a mantra of his administration. It was a needed breather considering the raw deal the polity had under his predecessor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. For the eight years of his rule, Obasanjo stood the time honoured tenet of democracy on its head. On countless occasions, the constitution was flagrantly trampled on.

Who do you think is really in charge now that President Yar’Adua could not satisfy the constitutional requirement of writing to the National Assembly before travelling to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment?

Former Anambra State governor Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju needs no introduction. He was the governor who had to fight to keep his seat as chief executive of the state from the first day he came to power.

Governing Ogun State was not a serious challenge to me having managed successfully three major newspapers in this country: The Nigerian Herald, The Sketch and then came as managing director of Daily Times, which was the highest point of my career.
