Stakeholders and political parties have signed a peace accord ahead of the November 11th governorship election in Kogi State.

The convener of the National Peace Committee, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to complain about insufficient funds ahead of the November 11 off-cycle elections.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has urged voters in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states to troop out on Saturday to vote for the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This round of elections will make it the second time governorship elections are held in the country this year after the March polls that produced new governors in 19 states of the federation.

Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999 after general elections were held across the country, but there are also off-season elections. 

A report has shown that out of 51 candidates vying for the governorship in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states, respectively, only three are women.

The Imo State governorship election, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Labour Party, LP), Senators Samuel Anyanwu and Athan Achonu, staged a walkout at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ahead of the Saturday, November 11, governorship election in Imo, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said there will be no election in the Polling Units with no registered voters.

The chairman of the Bayelsa Traditional Rulers Council, Bubaraye Dakolo, has claimed that politicians are exploiting the weaknesses of the law enforcement agencies to cause mayhem in the country.

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Kogi state, Murtala Ajaka,has alleged that he is a target of assassination over the November 11, 2023 governorship election in the state.
