The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has confirmed the abduction of one of its personnel in Bayelsa state, few hours to the commencement of the governorship election.

The House of Representatives has called on the electorate in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States to come out en masse and participate in the November 11, 2023 Governorship Elections.

The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the planned visit of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, to the state less than 24 hours to Saturday’s governorship poll.

As the off-cycle governorship elections take place today (Saturday) in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states, the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has urged security agencies to maintain professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Ahead of the three off-cycle elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo states, a coalition of 70 Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, on Friday, tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to be transparent, saying it was the only way to rekindle hopes of citizens in the electoral system.

As three states of Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi go to the poll on November 11 to elect their governors, the Council of civil society groups, Civil Society Organizations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative in Nigeria, CSCHEI, has warned against any form of violence or electoral malpractice in the respective states.

THE various motor parks and marine jetties in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, recorded a large turnout of passengers traveling to their villages ahead of the Saturday governorship election.

Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states, former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged politicians and their followers to eschew violence and conduct themselves in a peaceful and lawful manner.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Bayelsa state has explained its decision to use only permanent staff of the Commission as Supervisory Presiding Officers SPOs in Saturday’s governorship elections in the state, saying it would help enhance the sanctity of the process.
