THE Management of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has pleaded with aggrieved members of the Dockworkers Branch of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) to shelve their planned strike and give it time to resolve the issue of unpaid wages of tally clerks, security and other colleagues who have not been paid their wages for the past one year.

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has called on President Umaru Yar’Adua to concentrate on finding solutions for the various problems of development threatening the country, rather than dissipating his energies on the issue of the Councils which he said had been settled by the pronouncement of the Supreme Court.

He said any attempt to reverse the upgrade of the PTI, Effurun as approved by former President Olusegun Obasanjo would be resisted at all cost and commended the South-South governors for their quick reaction and intervention on the matter.

“It is most unfortunate that at this time when our economy is facing serious challenge and the electorates looking up to Mr. President to provide the desired leadership that would steer the country to economic prosperity, the nation is being dragged back to an issue that had been settled by the apex court,” he lamented.

Government promised to release Henry Okah, Government has done so and Government is putting structures in place for their security and that’s why we didn’t start off with collecting the arms. We wanted to make sure that we put structure in place for their security.
