ASUU claims that there are some forces in the government bent on frustrating the emergence of a centrally signed agreement with ASUU, adding that these forces are aware that no agreement will be signed at individual council levels, as the councils do not have the financial means of implementing the funding requirements.

It been over a month that members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Educational Institutions have been on strike. Indeed NASU commenced a nationwide strike on July 8, 2009 . The strike coincided with that of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Senior Staff Association ( SSANU).

Beginning from Monday this week, members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in both state and federal polytechnics, began a one-week warning strike. This is to be followed by a full scale nationwide strike if government fails to accede to their demands.
