Last week, we noted that “there is an ongoing debate as to whether the President is ‘zonally’ qualified to contest
elections in 2011. On account of the feeling in some quarters that the presidency had been zoned to the North for eight years reckoned from 2007, the office of president they argue, would have no vacancy for a non northerner until 2015.

While most unions in the country are lamenting over dwindling income occasioned by declining membership, National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees, NUFBTE, is busy diversifying and expanding its income base. Like Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, and immediate past President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, would say, nobody achieves success through lamentation, but by confronting the object of lamentation head on.

NATIONAL Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees, NUFBTE, has commended four state governors, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, and Dr. Olusegun Mimko of Ondo state, for delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

The event, which was organised by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council was attended by the Minister of Education, Prof. (Mrs) Ruqayyatu Rufa’i (OON), the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Arabic Language Village, Prof. Tijanni Miskail and his counterpart at the Nigeria French Language Village, Prof. S.O. Aje.
