IT is no longer news that some concerned Nigerians want the contentious regulatory Bill on Non-governmental Organisation ‘killed’ by the National Assembly, but it is uncertain how the lawmakers will eventually handle the  matter.  Like every other bill before the National Assembly, the regulatory Bill on NGOs has its merits and demerits.

FORMER President of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, has called on National Assembly to withdraw the Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, Bill, saying it is unnecessary.

UNDER the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and states’ Attorneys-General are regarded as the number one law officers of the country and their respective states. Specifically, the holder of the office at either level of government is vested with certain powers which can be exercised by him/her or sometimes delegated. Under Section 174 and Section 211 of the Constitution, the AG has the power to initiate, take over or discontinue (by entering nolle prosequi) any criminal proceeding in the overriding public interest.

REGISTRAR to Council, of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Dr. Iyi Uwadiae, has lamented the rate at which students, parents and merrcenaries connive before and during examination to cheat. Uwadiae who described it as alarming, warned that if stakeholders do not urgently arrest the trend, it would erode the future of our students.
