The Lagos/Ibadan Expressway has been dubbed in some quarters as a highway of horror due to the frequent fatal auto accidents that have occurred there. This possibly explains why commuters usually engage in passionate prayer sessions before embarking on a journey through that seemingly accident-prone road.

On September 28, when the Lagos State Government, LASG, said it had employed no fewer than 80 women Bus Rapid Transit System, BRT, drivers, with its asset management company, the Lagos Bus Asset Management Company, LAGBUS, it was commended for its action, given the army of unemployed youths roaming the streets of Lagos in search of unavailable white-collar jobs. The state government had stated that this employment was part of its efforts to empower women in the state.

Thousands of commuters, penultimate Monday, were stranded on the ever-busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway, as private bus operators popularly called Coaster Mass Transit withdrew their services from the roads to protest their extortion by the two major transport unions in the state.

Against the backdrop of reported cases of assaults and extortion of innocent motorists plying major routes in Lagos roads, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has urged residents to be vigilant over the rising presence and activities of men claiming to be its officials and the state’s taskforce unit.

LIFE is full of many inexplicable ironies. While some were born with silver spoon in their mouth, some did not enjoy the luxury of being fed with any spoon let alone a silver spoon.
